bed and breakfast in Brittany France, Lake Guerledan

Welcome to Ty Bara Kozh
Bed and breakfast in Brittany

It was always our dream to run a bed and breakfast in Brittany. Now that our dream has become reality, we want to ensure that all who stay with us have a really good time here in the Cote d'Armor. Our B&B is Saint Gelven's premier Chambres d'Hôtes, with three double bedrooms, all en-suite and one double with a separate bathroom. Our rooms are distinctively furnished to a very high standard, and can be viewed in our gallery. 100% cotton sheets and duvets covers, bath towels and bath robes are provided, along with tea and coffee making facilities, CD, TV and DVD in all our rooms for your comfort.

The pretty village of Saint Gelven in the department of Cotes d'Armor, central Brittany, is nestled in stunning countryside just above the Lac de Guerledan, between Mur de Bretagne and the medieval village of Gouarec. We are just off the N164 (clearly signposted), and within easy reach of Rennes, Brest and Dinard. This enables us to provide a collection service from these cities airports and main railway stations, and will transport you safely to Saint Gelven in sunny Cotes d'Armor, central Brittany. For more information on our collection service or how to find us, please feel free to contact us.

Local Attractions..

There's always lots to do right on our doorstep, from walks in the local forests and woods, including along the banks of the Nantes/Brest Canal, river Blavet and the Lac de Guerledan. You can go sailing, boating and water skiing on the lake, swimming, or relaxing in the café's, bars and restaurants around its shores. Local historic attractions in the area of Saint Gelven, range from Neolithic sites: 'aleese couvertes de Liscuis', to medieval: 'L'Abbaye Bon Repos' and 18th century, 'Salle de Forge'. Saint Gelven also hosts, in August, Le Spectacle Son & Lumiere De Bretagne, an amazing production, with a cast of hundreds, horses and hounds, taking us through the historical and mythical events of the region. Further Afield..

This area is surrounded by many pretty ancient villages with distinctive architecture, and with extremely fine restaurants and bars for the gastronome and 'Bon Viveur'.   Many of these restaurants traditionally catered for workers, providing them with a 'Formule' (a set menu), for lunch. A Formule usually consists of a starter, main course, cheese and dessert and quite often come inclusive of wine, or cider. Today these same restaurants are still very popular, and now are only too happy to cater for visitors and holiday makers. We know of some really good restaurants that at lunch time provide two, three and four course lunches, with a choice of main course, ranging in price, from 8 to 15 Euros per head.

The beautiful towns and cities of Quintin, Josselin, Pontivy and Lorient are nearby. Both Quintin and Josselin are quintessential historic Breton towns. Pontivy, as with Josselin, has a fine Châteaux, open to visitors. Lorient has much to see and enjoy, and has the added advantage of the Lamor Plage, with its fine restaurants overlooking the sea. Lorient is on the south coast of Brittany, just off the main N165-E60. A modern town boasting charm and splendid attractions, including a 2nd world war submarine base and beautiful offshore islands.  The fishing port is amongst the largest in France, and the early worm will get to watch the auction of the previous night's catch.

During the first two weeks of August Lorient is host to the Inter-celtique music festival, which draws around 5000 artists from the British Isles, Spain and Brittany.  The first weekend has an excellent parade with dancing in traditional costumes.  You can also visit the old World War II submarine base. Tours can be arranged through the tourist office.

Josselin is not far from Pontivy, it is a beautiful medieval town set on the river Oust, with a delightful château, and excellent town square that offers many restaurants and cafes overlooking the Basilica de Notre Dame du Roncier. You should allow yourself a day to visit the sites and take in the atmosphere in one of the cafes in the town square.  The Nantes/Brest canal runs through the town and is ideal for cycling along the towpath.  The Lac du Duc near Ploermel offers swimming with a man made beach and water sports.
